Delegates Conduct Stocktaking Plenary at INC-3: Assessing Progress in Revising Zero Draft of International Treaty on Plastic Pollution


In the midway point of the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-3) to develop an international legally binding instrument (ILBI) on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, delegates met in a stocktaking plenary on 16th November 2023 to check in on the progress made in their discussions towards the revision of the Zero Draft text of the ILBI.

Representing SACEP as an Intergovernmental Organization, Ms.Rokeya Khaton, Director General SACEP delivered a statement at the Stocktaking plenary. In her address, she referred to the ongoing "Plastic-Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia" project and emphasized that the successful operationalization of the International Legally Binding Instrument relies on well-structured institutional arrangements and suggested incorporating Regional IGOs such as SACEP into implementing mechanisms to enable instruments.
