Public Awareness Campaign on Plastic Waste Management: Signing of Contract Agreement


The South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) signed a contract of LKR 52,000,000 with the Communi network (Pvt.) Ltd at the Ministry of Environment, Government of Sri Lanka on May 09th, 2023. The aim of this contract is to implement an awareness campaign on plastic waste management to enhance public awareness on Reduce in use of plastic and encourage the action on plastic waste management among Sri Lankan citizens in line with the National Action Plan on Plastic Waste Management of Sri Lanka. Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, and Dr. Masumur Rahman, Director General of SACEP, along with delegates, graced the event.

The campaign is set to run for an extended period, with the objective of raising awareness and encouraging actions on plastic waste management among the Sri Lankan citizens. This activity is being funded by The World Bank under Component II of the PLEASE project which aims to facilitate the region’s transition towards a more circular plastic economy.
