Strengthening Collaborative Efforts Between SACEP and SHAMS for Coral Reef and Marine Turtle Conservation

During the 38th General Meeting of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 08-13th September 2024 a delegation from SACEP, led by Director General Ms. Rokeya Khaton, held productive bilateral discussions with the General Organization for Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea (SHAMS). Established in 1443 AH, SHAMS is a key Saudi government organization dedicated to the preservation, management, and sustainability of the rich coral reef ecosystems and marine turtle populations that thrive along the Red Sea, including their vital nesting habitats.

The meeting focused on potential collaborations between SACEP and SHAMS, exploring shared resources, expertise, and innovative conservation techniques. Both organizations aim to empower stakeholders and ensure that their collective efforts translate into meaningful and impactful conservation actions.
