Maldives Minister Thoriq Ibrahim Meets SACEP Director General, Pledges Support for Regional Environmental Initiatives

Malé, Maldives – H.E. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology of the Maldives, met with Mr. Norbu Wangchuk, Director General of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP), to discuss regional environmental cooperation and joint initiatives.

The meeting, held in Malé, was attended by Deputy Minister Ahmed Nizam and other senior officials from the Ministry. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between SACEP and the Maldives in addressing pressing environmental challenges, including marine pollution, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation.

Minister Thoriq reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to supporting SACEP’s efforts in fostering regional environmental cooperation. He emphasized the importance of collective action in tackling transboundary environmental issues and expressed confidence in SACEP’s role in facilitating knowledge-sharing and capacity-building among South Asian nations.

Director General Norbu Wangchuk thanked the Maldivian government for its continuous support and reiterated SACEP’s dedication to advancing sustainable environmental policies in the region.
