Director General of SACEP made a courtesy call on High Commissioner of India for Sri Lanka


Dr. Md. Masumur Rahman, Director General together with Ms. Jacintha S. Tissera, Head of Chancery, Mr. W.K. Rathnadeera, Senior Programme Officer and Mr. Zammath Khaleel, Senior Programme Officer (Regional) of the South Asian Seas Programme paid a courtesy call on H.E. Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of the Republic of India for Sri Lanka on 26th October 2021.

H.E. Gopal Baglay acknowledged the efforts taken by SACEP in the field of environment and highlighted the importance of renewable energy and fair use of fertilizer which could be considered while developing future activities of SACEP. Dr. Md Masumur Rahman briefed on the ongoing activities of the organization and presented a summary of the implementation of The World Bank funded project titled ‘Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia (PLEASE)’ and also stated that SACEP has taken a lead role in promoting Sustainable Nitrogen Management in the South Asian Region.

The deliberations were also on the scheduled Meeting of the Environment Ministers to be held on 4th November 2021 at UNFCCC-COP26 venue and the Side Event to be held 03rd November 2021 at the same venue jointly organized with Government of Sri Lanka under the aegis of SACEP.

H.E. Gopal Baglay expressed his gratitude for having a fruitful discussion and placed on record the willingness to further discuss matters related to SACEP at a future meeting. Dr. Sushil Kumar, First Secretary (Technical Cooperation) & Head of Chancery of the High Commission of India and the Consultative Committee Member of SACEP for India also attended the meeting.
