Director General of SACEP made a courtesy call on Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka

Dr. Md. Masumur Rahman, Director General, Ms. Jacintha S. Tissera, Head of Chancery and Mr. Zammath Khaleel, Senior Programme Officer of the South Asian Seas Programme (SASP) met H. E. Tanvir Ahmad, Acting High Commissioner of the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka on 15 October 2021.

Having congratulated Dr. Md. Masumur Rahman on his appointment as the Director General of SACEP, the Acting High Commissioner appreciated SACEP for the initiatives taken in promoting regional coordination and for being focused on challenging environmental issues in the South Asian region. They discussed the current activities and the work programme of SACEP and Dr. Rahman thanked the Government of Pakistan for its active role and engagement as a Member States of SACEP and SASP.

Dr. Rahman further highlighted regarding SACEP’s Side Events to be held at the upcoming 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) to the UNFCCC and as well as the nitrogen pollution and the importance of addressing the impacts of excess use of chemical fertilizers on land, air and water. Moreover, he emphasized the ongoing efforts by SACEP in partnership with the South Asia Nitrogen Hub and the development of the Nitrogen Policy Framework for South Asia.

H. E. Tanvir Ahmad happily welcomed the delegation of SACEP and thanked the Director General for enlightening regarding the role of SACEP in the efforts taken to protect the environment in the South Asian Region.
