The Director General of SACEP PArticipated in the NAP Expo 2024 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh

The Director General of South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme(SACEP), Ms. Rokeya Khaton, participated in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Expo 2024, held from April 22 to 25, 2024, at BICC in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This event was organized by UNFCCC and supported by the Government of Bangladesh.

The NAP Expo is an outreach event organized by the LEG to promote exchange of experiences and foster partnerships on how to advance NAPs. It brings together a wide range of actors and stakeholders including, inter alia, national leaders and policymakers on NAPs; representatives of Green Climate Fund, the Global Environment Facility, UN organizations, international organizations, bilateral and multilateral agencies, regional centres and networks, and the private sector, as well as scientists and practitioners on climate change adaptation.

In sideline to the said event, Ms Rokeya Khaton had a number of bi-lateral meetings with SACEP’s Governing Council Chair, esteemed National Focal Points (NFPs) and representatives from member states, and other international partners including GCF on the possible joint activities on mutual interest in the South Asia region.

During the meeting with Mr. Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bangladesh and the current Chair of the Governing Council of SACEP, Ms. Rokeya thoroughly explained the range of activities undertaken by SACEP throughout 2023-2024, offering insight into the organization's strategic plans for the upcoming year in collaboration with various partners. The discussions served as a platform for aligning efforts and fostering regional cooperation in tackling environmental challenges.

Furthermore, the Director General paid a courtesy call to Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bangladesh at Secretariat and expressed sincere gratitude for the continuous support provided to SACEP in advancing the organization's objective.

Ms. Rokeya also had a call on Dr. Masumur Rahman, former Director General, SACEP at his office in Agargaon, Dhaka. They discussed SACEP's ongoing projects, challenges, and future strategies for fostering environmental cooperation. She congratulated Mr. Rahman for being promoted as Additional Secretary and thanked him for his insights and leadership during his tenure in SACEP.
