The second day of the meeting on the Male Declaration on Control and Prevention of Air Pollution and Its Likely Transboundary Effects for South Asia – under the theme “Ambition to Action” – showcased an inspiring display of international solidarity and collaboration. Global and regional organizations working at the forefront of environmental protection and atmospheric science came together to share their insights, best practices, and innovations in air pollution control, while extending their support to strengthen and advance the objectives of the Male Declaration.
Representatives from organizations including UNESCAP, UNEP-ROAP, ICIMOD, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Clean Air Fund (CAF), GIZ, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and the World Bank delivered presentations highlighting their respective institutional efforts to address air pollution and foster cleaner, healthier environments across Asia and beyond.
Ms. Dechen Tshering, Regional Director of UNEP Asia and the Pacific, graced the occasion with her presence and delivered a keynote address. She reaffirmed UNEP’s full support to SACEP in advancing the Male Declaration and called for enhancing scientific cooperation, capacity building, and public engagement in air quality governance.
Day 02 concluded with a collective sense of optimism and shared responsibility. The convergence of institutional knowledge, scientific expertise, and strategic alignment presented by these international organizations reaffirmed the Male Declaration’s role as a vital regional mechanism to combat air pollution.
