NDC Advance: Accelerating Climate Actions in Asia and the Pacific - 7th December 2019,COP 25, Madrid,SPain


Dr.Basir, Director General of South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme attended a side event organized by Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the UNFCCC, COP 25 in Madrid, Spain on 07th December 2019 as a panelist.

The main objective of the side event was to Present NDC Advances key roles, approaches and recent progress in Asia and the Pacific,Showcase how NDC Advance can play in leveraging the policies and capacities needed by DMCs to enhance their climate actions while ensuring sustainable economic development and to Provide a platform for institutional dialogue and partnerships to generate the kind of innovation andsystemic solutions required to achieve the Paris Agreements on climate change.

In the panel discussion Dr. Abas Basir presented a short overview on the regional activities and priorities SACEP provides and facilitates to its member countries with regards to NDC planning, implementation and monitoring and also the ongoing climate-related technical and capacity building assistance undertaken by SACEP for South Asia. He also shared the recent collaboration between SACEP and ADB through its NDC Advance on NDC implementation and the prospects for taking the collaboration further. Going further he also mentioned about some common points of interest for SACEP member countries to collaborate at a regional scale with regards to climate change and the kind of support needed to support regional / transboundary or bilateral coordination efforts.

The panel discussion was followed by an interactive discussion with the audience that highlights various exchange on the different approaches being taken to support enhancement and implementation of NDCs
