Use of bicycle by SACEP's staff members during fuel crisis in Colombo, Sri Lanka.


The bicycle is a tremendously efficient means of transportation than any other method of travel, including walking. Riding a bike is environmentally friendly, healthy, fun and a low-impact form of exercise for all ages. It can help to protect from serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and arthritis etc.

As a sustainable solution for transportation during crisis in fuel, SACEP offers 20% subsidiaries rate of the total price to its staff members for purchasing a new bicycle. It offers an installment payment plan for the rest as well.

Dr. Masumur Rahman, the Director general of SACEP explained the easiness of bicycle using to fit into the daily routine because cycling requires no gasoline and, therefore, no harmful vehicle emissions or smog are released into the air when a person is riding his or her bicycle. Dr Rahman told that opting to use your bicycle a few times a week, instead of your car is one of the simplest ways to lower your environmental footprint.

He requested to all staff members of SACEP to use bicycle instead of fuels driving vehicles by introducing the offer.
