The first annual Sea of Solutions Conference started its work on November 11, 2019, in Bangkok, Thailand. The week-long event is being convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) to address plastic pollution. A key message for the event is that “tackling plastic marine litter requires a multi-stakeholder value chain approach to prevent land-based plastic pollution at source by reducing single-use plastic and hard to recycle products, ensuring less plastic is wasted, and increasing reuse and recycling of plastic.” The event is attended by hundreds of stakeholders from around the world and it is set to take place annually.
