Dr. Abas Basir Director General of SACEP met with Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya at the University Headquarter in Kandy, Sri Lanka on 20th September 2019. At this meeting, in which Prof. Gamini Pushpakumara, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. S. P. Nishanka Senior Lecturer, Department of Crop Science,University of Peradeniya also attended. Dr. Basir highlighted the importance of the roles that research institutions and academia can play in addressing environmental issues and improving environment protection particularly in terms of capacity building, supporting science based policies and raising public awareness, and expressed SACEP's interest in collaboration and partnership between SACEP and Peradeniya University of Sri Lanka. Dr. Basir added that SACEP is working with its partners to expand its collaboration with other universities in the region involved in environmental research and activities.
Prof. Upul B.Dissanayake Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University welcomed Dr. Basir and expressed his interest in working collaboratively with SACEP to meet the needs of the region in terms of capacity building and research activities.
Both sides agreed to establish partnership and work together to conduct capacity building programms and support science based policies in the region.
