National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Plastic free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project - Islamabad, Pakistan


SACEP and Ministry of Climate Change of Government of Pakistan jointly organised a workshop on PLEASE Project. Senator Ms. Sherry Rehman, Hon'ble Federal State Minister for Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan was present as the Chief Guest and Dr. Masumur Rahman, Director General of South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP) delivered opening remarks in the inaugural Programme of the workshop.

World Bank representative, Civil society members, business community and senior officials of the government, SACEP/PIU staff members and many dignitaries were present in the workshop.

Hon'ble State Minister Ms. Sherry Rehman mentioned that South Asian countries need to work together on plastics issues to create a safe environment.

Dr Masumur Rahman said that SACEP developed this project with excellent support and guidance from the World Bank team to overcome the regional environmental and socioeconomic threat posed by plastic pollution. He mentioned that this is a millstone achievement of SACEP’s history since its establishment in 1982. This partnership with The World Bank for totaling USD 50 million grant including the Parley’s contribution of USD 13 million as parallel co-financing would elevate SACEP to a new height. Now, it has come to a stage of implementation in SACEP's all member states.
