Following the Tenure of Afghanistan, Hands Over SACEP Leadership to Bangladesh


Afghanistan ended the leadership of SACEP on August 7, 2021. In a farewell and welcoming reception at the SACEP headquarters, Out-going Director General, H.E. Ambassador Haidari welcomed aboard his successor from Bangladesh, Dr. Md. Masumur Rahman, and passed on the baton to him, wishing him the best in leading the regional inter-governmental organization forward.

H.E. Ambassador Haidari highlighted the implementation of the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project (PLEASE), a $50 million grant from The World Bank and Parley for the Oceans, as one of SACEP’s key achievements. He said that despite COVID19 lockdowns, SACEP had conducted many events, including hosting workshops, conferences and speaking engagements. In addition, he pointed out that, SACEP’s visibility through its daily updated social media pages and website has increased manifold due to the pandemic.

The SACEP personnel also welcomed the new Head of Mission, Dr. Md. Masumur Rahman, the nominee of Government of Bangladesh with wishes to lift up SACEP to new heights.
