Director-General Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari met with Prof. Mark Sutton and his team leading the activities of South Asia Nitrogen Hub, funded by UKRI-GCRF. They discussed the importance of nitrogen management in South Asia region and the status of implementation of South Asia Nitrogen Hub, including key challenges and barriers particularly due to the pandemic. They also discussed future opportunities on raising the profile of the issue regionally and internationally highlighting the potential for leadership for South Asian region to showcase initiative in addressing the issue.
The Director-General re-affirmed the full support of SACEP in achieving key outcomes of South Asia Nitrogen Hub. He indicated the intention of SACEP to continue playing an active role in the Hub and to help address the issue of nitrogen pollution in the region, an issue that is everywhere and invisible.
In addition to Prof.Sutton, who is the Principal Investigator of South Asian Nitrogen Hub, the meeting was attended by Prof. Tapan K Adhya, Co-director (Science) for the South Asian Nitrogen Hub, Prof. Raghuram, Co-Investigator of South Asia Nitrogen Hub and Chair of International Nitrogen Initiative, and Prof. Jeffery Roger, Co-Investigator of South Asian Nitrogen Hub.
