The 16th Meeting of the Governing Council of SACEP successfully concluded on 26th June 2024, in Thimphu, Bhutan, with the participation of its member country representatives.
Ms. Rokeya Khaton, Director General of SACEP, inaugurated the event by welcoming the delegates on behalf of the SACEP Secretariat and expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Bhutan for their hospitality and for hosting this significant meeting.
Remarks were also delivered by Hon'ble Lyonpo Gem Tshering, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Hon’ Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change of Bangladesh and the outgoing Chair of the SACEP GC, and Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy of Maldives. Dasho Karma Tshering, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, delivered the vote of thanks.
The meeting elected the Royal Government of Bhutan as the Chair of the Governing Council of SACEP and approved the 2024-2025 Work Plan. In addition to member country representatives, the meeting was attended by observers from various international organizations. These included UN Environment, the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Embassy in Kathmandu, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies - Centre for Climate and Environmental Transition (IGES-CCET), and the South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH).
